Weekend Activities - Memorial Day Edition

Get a jump on your long holiday weekend by unwinding to some live, local music on Thursday evening. 

 

The Knife & Cork  features live music by Bailey Shea Dickie starting at 6pm. 

 

Ed Leonard can be found playing at the Junction on Route 36 from 6:30-9:30 each Thursday.

 

Taylor Branch plays an acoustic show at The Bar Somewhere Else from 7:30-10:30 on Thursdays.

 

Friday

 

With all four of our Coryell County schools holding graduation, Saturday evening, you’ll want to find gifts for the graduates in your life. Check out the great gift options at our local stores or take your grad out to dinner at their favorite local restaurant.  Check the Shopping and Dining listings at www.VisitGatesvilleTX.com.

 

 

Star Wars fans will want to see the new movie “Solo” followed by “Avengers” at the Last Picture Show Drive-In this weekend.  Show time is 8:45.

 

 

 

 

On Friday, you can catch Ed Leonard again from 7-10pm at The American Legion on Watts Lane. Get there early for their Friday Fried Catfish. 


Saturday

This Memorial Day, please take a time to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our 

freedom.

Our Coryell County Museum has a wonderful display area dedicated to our Armed Forces. They are closed Sunday and Monday but welcome you to come by for a visit on Saturday. Admission to the museum is free; donations accepted.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Support our local area Volunteer Fire Departments. This weekend is the Annual Coryell City/Osage Fire Department BBQ.  Join them for good food, horseshoe tournament, bounce houses and more. Fun begins at 9 am!! Food starts at noon!

 

Saturday night, Matt Smith and the South Mountaineers will play on the outdoor stage at Bare Bones BBQ.  Food and beverages available for purchase but BYOLC (Bring Your Own Lawn Chair).

 

Sunday

 

Boots N Saddles Cowboy Church invites you to “Church in the Dirt” on Sunday. There will be a free breakfast at 8:30, followed by a devotional and roping event. (Click on flier for more details)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Turnersville Cemetary Association will hold a homecoming event on Sunday at the Turnersville tabernacle starting at 9am with a memorial service at 11am and picnic on the grounds to follow.

 

There will be a Historical Marker Dedication at White Mound Baptist Church on Sunday. The schedule for the day includes Sunday School at 10, worship at 11, followed by lunch on the grounds then the marker dedication at 2pm, to be followed by a dessert reception.

 

Monday – Memorial Day

 

Monday is Memorial Day. The American Legion will hold a Memorial Day Service at 9am on the courthouse lawn.

 

Special Thanks to Jim Shepard and his guys at the City of Gatesville Street Department for putting our flags up on Main Street for Memorial Day, to Robert Featherston and his Building and Grounds Department for working so hard to get the cemeteries mowed and ready for visitors, to Nathan Gholke and the Officers and Staff at the Gatesville Police Department for keeping us safe on the streets this busy holiday weekend, and to Billy Vaden and his tireless volunteers at the Gatesville Volunteer Fire Department and in our area fire departments who stand ready if a fire or emergency occurs this holiday weekend.

 

Looking ahead...

Get ready for a big weekend ahead.  June 1st and 2nd bring a bunch of fun activities to Gatesville and the surrounding area!
