Although the “official” first day of Summer isn’t until June 21st, this weekend is what many of us regard as the first weekend of Summer. School is out, June is here, and it certainly feels like summer in Central Texas. Gatesville has no shortage of summertime fun for you this weekend!
FRIDAY, JUNE 1ST
The Gatesville Shivaree kicks off with the Fiddler’s Contest on the Courthouse Square at 7pm. Admission is free. Bring your lawn chair!
Just down Main Street (one block off the square), the Knife & Cork welcomes you for dinner or drinks and the music of Bailey Shea Dickie, starting at 6pm on Friday evening.
The whole family can enjoy a stage production of Captain Rex’s Treasure Adventure at the Gatesville City Auditorium at 7:00pm. Admission is free. (Additional performances at 7pm Saturday and Sunday at 11am.)
Later in the evening, head out to the outdoor stage at Bare Bones BBQ to hear Ryan Davis of The Rust Band, starting at 9pm. His music has been described at a gritty, intense mixture of roots, rock, and blues.
SATURDAY, JUNE 2ND
Festivities continue throughout the day on Saturday. This year's festival includes a Jeep Show, Old Time Fiddlers, Miss Shivaree Pageant, IBCA Sanctioned BBQ Cookoff, market and food vendors, Goat Roping, Gator Country Roadshow, mechanical bull, Cowboy Hypnotist, and a Kiddie Land.
On-stage music all-day features talented entertainers such as: Dick Gimble, Bailey Shea Dickie, Taylor Branch and The Lone Star Ramblers, Billy Latham, Crash Landing, Phil Hamilton, and Mark Powell.
Bring your cooler and lawn chairs at 7 pm Saturday and enjoy constant music under the stars throughout the evening! Purchase cooler bands in advance for $25 at Leon River Mercantile, Hinds & Marcus Jewelers, or The Cotton Belt Depot Visitors Center until 5 pm on Friday; cooler bands at Shivaree are $30.

You'll also want to go on down to The Country Cottage, just one block off Main at 105 S Lovers Ln. They are going out of business and have great deals on merchandise and fixtures!
Bluegrass lovers will converge at nearby Pearl, TX this weekend for the the 1st Saturday Jam and Stage Show. This month will also feature the State Mandolin Championships from 10am-1pm with the Stage Show from 1:15-5pm. Featured Showcase: "JP Shafer Band"

PATSY B INVITATIONAL BULL RIDING
The Patsy B Invitational Bull Riding opens at 6pm with a Mutton Bustin contest for the kids, followed by the bull riding at 7pm and featuring the Texas Grease Paint Tour freestyle bull fighting at half-time. All the action occurs out at the Gatesville Riding Club Arena on Saturday night Tickets are $10 in advance at Leon River Mercantile, Ramada and Ace Hardware.
